Are We Our Pets Moms & Dads? Masters? Owners?

Featured photo: This is the famous YouTube dog Brody. Today there was much controversy re calling Brody his son. This was my reply

How’s this sit w the masses:

•We are not their parents/ moms or dads & most importantly they’re not our infants…. They’re allowed to grow up and have their adult experiences and we should want that for them

• We are not their masters (which draws the connotation of slavery) though we might lead the pack/ herd/ flock etc

• While legally we’re their “owners,” one can never own another’s soul or body if we respect them having a sense of self …which it sounds like this cluster of commenters does (whew)

• We are their friends, their brothers and sisters… but they belong to the world, to themselves and to their maker.

• We’re the lucky ones that get to provide care and stellar husbandry choices for them as well as enrichment and connections through relationships with others

• more than love, respect the animals in your care as whole beings deserving of full lives and spiritual/ emotional/ physical contentedness.

❌⭕️❤️all of our furry, scaley, feathery, slimy, calcium-covered and skin-covered, etc  brothers and sisters …
