Poodle x Terrier (16# dog) was unnecessarily shot while trying to run home, posing no threat. Michigan Sheriff’s dept taking crime seriously, but agrees more change is needed in charging and sentencing criminals.

When I lived in NC, I experienced some of the most horrific cruelties perpetrated by some of the locals. Nearly every week there was report of rape, sodomy, shooting, poisoning, burning or other mutilation, abandonment, lack of medical help for pets… on and on.
Whats worse, is that even the local shelters and animal control had “unsavory practices.” Animal control was known to have killed dogs, via choking, at the end of a rabies-pole. This rabies-pole device is meant to keep handlers at a safe distance from dangerous animals, while also safely restraining the animal. Animal control housing facilities were found to be ridden with feces, fleas and other parasites, as well as providing sub-par feeds.
Johnston County Animal Shelter was still gassing mass amounts of animals as their form of euthanasia. This practice was commonly used during the Holocaust, and inflicts both undue suffering and panic. Animals also must watch each other become violently ill and die, as they themselves suffer. A few “gun-toting” states recommend shooting cats when you call authorities to pick up strays. They do not offer humane resources for cats. under current laws, it’s considered a felony to steal someone’s animal (going back to old horse-trading laws) and only a misdemeanor to kill one. Any perpetrator of animal cruelty must first receive (3) misdemeanors, before then thankfully the “3rd-strike” law allows for prosecution as a felony.
Other animal professionals also contribute to animal abuses, some known to all, and some will surprise you. We’re all aware of some inhumane circus-lifestyles for animals being horrific, as well as other animal attractions….:(see Dodo Heroes season 1episode 4)

…Abuses occurring in puppy mill, and breeding of any animal in the legal and illegal pet trades are also well-known. Many of us are aware that greyhound race dogs often get only one bullet (wether it immediately kills them, or they die slow painful deaths that take days) in lemon groves in FL, or are dropped into FL swamps & left for the alligators to consume (while not only defenseless to alligators, but unaware of the threat), when they’re no longer of service. Its obvious that fighting roosters and dogs, particularly the use of bait birds and bait dogs in these arenas, creates the worst type of blatant animal abuse.
But did you know that boarding/daycare -facility staff, veterinarians, vet-technicians, and pet groomers have sometimes used their hands to abuse pets? I’ve personally witnessed animal abuse in each of these settings, as an employee of various companies.
Do you all remember the Green Acres Dog Boarding scandal, in Pheonix, Arizona (June 2016) where 23 dogs were injured or died? This fortunately made national news. See links below:

I think it’s largely the abuse perpetrated by professionals I mentioned above, that we tend to trust implicitly to better our pets, was the primary reason I began my 5-aspect business. The 5-aspects are:
• (1) Pet Wellness Consultation: utilizing whole food, herbs and homeopathy to CURE pets maladies, vs drugging and only placating symptoms.
• (2) Dog, Cat and Horse Training: applying kind methods to reform behaviors born from animal abuse/neglect, traumatic experiences & emotional imbalances. Other types of training are also available.
• (3) Pet Grooming: utilizing patience and my training skills to both start new dogs without fear of grooming, and rehabbing animals traumatized by bad grooming /vet experiences. Other types of grooming are available.
• (4 &5) Pet Boarding & Daycare: where animals experiencing joy and contentedness is as important as their safety and wellness. Both are top priorities. I also board behaviorally and medically challenged pets.
We must show all animals respect and compassion. We also need to understand that “fight or flight” is a natural mechanism animals utilize for their welfare. Taking a growl or a snap “personally” and retaliating is an inappropriate human response. In my practices, Hitting or screaming at pets that express desire for figh-or-flight is also an inappropriate response, and created by a human character-flaw of impatience.
I reform animals fear and subsequent aggression or flight response. This new confidence and trust during vet procedures and grooming, helps ensure they won’t recieve further abuse down the line. Sometimes only the submissive animal that won’t take any action to protect themselves in fearful situations, or only the well-behaved pets, are the ones humanely treated by professionals. That’s sad, and has to stop. All animals, particularly frightened and then defensive ones, deserve our respect and humane treatment.

What are the animals chances, when authorities and trusted professionals that are supposed protect and better animals, behave poorly?
Livestock (prior to slaughter) have better protection under agricultural laws, than the pets in our homes, that will never end up on our dinner table. Under current laws, pets are still considered as personal property, and have almost as little protection as the sofa in your living room. Theft of your sofa can yield a serious criminal charge. Someone burning or slashing your sofa will likely only face less-serious vandalism charges. This is the same operating principal that governs how criminal actions against our household pets, are charged & sentenced.
I hope to see ALL animals gain the rights and protection they need and deserve. Thereafter, I hope to see these increased rights upheld, and criminals both charged and sentenced to the full extent of these new laws.
As well, much like we demanded more ethical treatment of lab animals, that we hold all animal authorities/professionals up to these standards. And, that we utilize the legal system to enforce consequences. Perhaps we need expansion of the same animal-ethics boards required to keep lab animals, both in capacity and scope. Then one day, livestock slated for slaughter, may also receive more humane treatment prior to and including slaughter methods. Maybe animals will not be exploited for entertainment (animal attractions, racing greyhounds and horses, animal fighting, breeding mills.) One day there may not be any more inhumanely housed animals meant for agricultural use, and better husbandry overall. Perhaps we’ll even improve our protection of wildlife, including their habitats and resources (our environment.)
Concerned citizens can sign petitions, contact congressmen, contribute financial support or volunteer time to animal rights groups, and lobby for animal rights. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease!” Get involved.
