The Ultimate Dog & Cat Diet

Pictured above  is 3 diets within the 4 dishes. The top two contain a mix of pre-soaked kibble, frozen processed raw meat nuggets, and added green beans. This is a better option than a strictly kibble diet.  The bottom left is raw chicken liver for a cat so no veggies required and is optimal.. The bottom right, is an all kibble diet,. If feeding all-kibble-diet please pre-soak in water, prior to kibble entering the gut of your pet for safety.

•PROCESSED COMMERCIAL FOOD
Manufacturers of pet foods are also responding to customer demand, by processing raw meat diets, ready-made and available in refrigerated units. Cost often high. Often contain grains and low-quality meat.
As well, manufacturers of pet foods are responding to customer concerns, and are processing grain free, canned and bagged foods. READ LABELS! many harmful products end up in these foods, even in ‘HIGH QUALITY’ pet foods.
NEVER FEED DYED FOODS! Especially red dyes. Avoid yellow dyes as the next worst.

Another option for those choosing processed foods, aside from scrutinizing the labels carefully, supplement w/ Whole Foods; preferably raw, then flash fried or lastly; cooked.

•JILL’S EXPERIENCE

I feed a raw diet, and I make it myself. The results are profound; No arthritis, gingivitis ( white teeth w no tartar…even after almost 2-decades of living ), no kidney  or bladder stones common to nibble-fed dogs frok the synthetic line up of “vitamins and minerals” , no fleas, no skin maladies, or other maladies, and typically no cancers.

It’s amazing what whole real food will do.But it’s equally or MORE IMPORTANT to avoid ingredients in dog foods that are dangerous and gave serious health implications. This is why I’m anti-kibble.

I tailor my ingredients to aid specific ailments and maladies, particularly for rescued animals.

I am available for consultation, in switching to a raw food diet, and in ingredient selections.

•MAKING THE SWITCH

It’s a lengthy transition. 3/5 months because they have no gut-flora or digestive- enzymes  to aid digestion, That’s a # 1 & #2 problem w kibble- feeding. Therfor folks think their dogs hand food allergies and stop the switch prematurely. You’ll not know if any tour allergies until 3mo-6mo on this diet. Go slow. Just back up portion size if vomiting occurs. Maintain pet on probiotic-supplementation. Give gut flora a chance to  grow in numbers. In 30 days there will be a sustainable  population if your feed a SMALL portion of whole or raw food. In 90 days the size of the population will be sufficient for digestion.  Lots of vomiting if done too quickly. People then assume raw food is bad. Not the case. Vomiting also does not necessarily mean food allergies, for this reason. Dogs will allow digestion to occur outside the body in a pile of vomit and return later to eat the vomit. This avoids the tummy ache and is a wise adaptation of dogs. I’m not asking yoi to keep ther vomit piles around (though it’s helpful! Lol) but done w my support this can go slow and easy without vomiting, Just don’t be quick to scoff at the diet when you  see vomiting,

Pre/probiotics can aid in a smooth transition. Only buy refrigerated biotic supplements.

Even the addition of some whole (non-processed ) foods to a processed dog/food diet, can really catapult health. Just go SLOW. Add pinches of raw meat at first. This is definitely true to combat some of the ill-effects if you’re choose to include kibble ongoing.
Cooked whole foods are the next best option, but most vital nutrients are destroyed when cooking. Freezing loses vitamin D.  Cod liver oil can make up the difference there. Vital proteins are lost from freezing as well and are not replaceable.

•CAN MY DOG OR CAT EAT RAW SAFELY?

Dogs & Cats are naturally acidic (we’re neutral) and can even, and dogs therefore, eat rotten carcasses! In fact in the wild they’ll eat in a carcass for days and without refrigerating between feedings. They’re also part scavengers. Cate require fresher meats as apex hunters and not known as l scavengers. As well they both have comparatively short intestines. What they eat today they eliminate today. Much different design than you and I ( as is evident by their meat-eating teeth and jaw structure). Grains change their natural pH, and should never be given. A host of problems present, from adding grain to the diet, including cancers.

Pictured are two dishes of the same quantity of kibble. One is dry, and the other is pre-soaked in water. The pre-soaked dish, contains twice the quantity as the dry dish

This particular “high quality” kibble contains (3) plant products that absorb high quantities of fluid: brown rice, oatmeal and beet pulp. This is another hazard of feeding kibble diets, as this creates risk for Bloat, a surgical emergency.  A dog came to me on this diet, with chronic constipation, or “tap dancing while attempting defecation, many daily defecations, traveling foreword while defecating, and squealing every 10th defecation.” The diet is a highly recommended kibble. The medical advice was “hydrate the dog.” But this was leaving this dog with painful stomach aches, as the kibble was expanding more, when forcing more water into her. She’d “self-adjusted” by lowering her own water intake, to spare stomach pains. Dogs learn from their experiences in this way. Fully pre-hydrating the kibble, vs the dog, resolved all issues, after her torn rectum healed, that occurred from passing hardened and large stools. But since the first (3) ingredients were not meat, the owner thankfully switched to a different kibble.i advise pre-soaking all dry kibble diets.
