Jill is a veteran animal trainer, specializing in dog training, as well as cat training and horse training for over 30 years. She has exceptional animal handling techniques that have been enhanced by additional animal-related experiences. These additional experiences include being both a certified dog groomer and pet groomer, as well as a veterinary technician of eastern and western medicine, with a special interest in homeopathy. As a veterinary technician, she assisted veterinarians, treating domestic animals, wild animals, exotic pets, horses, and farm animals. At one time, Jill also owned a farm, with 38 of her own animals, and 50 total housed on the farm. Jill owned multiple species, ranging from horses, goats and chickens, to cats, dogs, ferrets, and lizards, frogs and toads. Simultaneously, she taught Horse Management at the college level.
Aside from the domestic front, Jill is certified to safely and properly handle over 75 species of wildlife. She routinely provided care for over 100 species of wildlife, as a game warden at a safari theme park, and through wildlife rehabilitation, as a degreed Wildlife Biologist. Jill starting an oiled-wildlife rehabilitation program at a Maryland wildlife conservation center, while attending the University of Maryland, where she majored in Wildlife Biology and minored in Animal Behavior. The oiled-wildlife rehabilitation program was a major contribution Jill made to the welfare of wildlife threatened by oil spills. Special handling is required, when recovering, and administering first aid, to oiled-wildlife.
Dog Training
Dogs are so altruistic, loyal and affectionate, and enhance our lives in profound ways. It is truly rewarding when our canine companions are well behaved, well adjusted, and matching up to societal expectations. Conversely, when our beloved pup starts behaving inappropriately, it can be disruptive in the home and neighborhood, and sometimes pose a threat to the well-being of people and other animals. Under those circumstances, dog training can greatly improve the lives of both the dog and the owner.
Jill combines positive reinforcement and thoughtful discipline (that does not negate your dog’s positive self-esteem), will allow your dog to find a peaceful existence in his or her world and put you back in control of your dog’s behavior.
First Timers
We offer training packages for new puppies, newly acquired, and rescued dogs. Our dog training will teach basic skills and commands to you and your dog together.
Never Too Late
We work with dogs of any age, size and/or breed. Dog training can even create positive change in dogs that have misbehaved for years. See the Tail Wags section, to hear the positive experiences of owners of mature dogs, that have successfully learned basic obedience, as well as been emotionally rehabilitated, for complex issues.
Troubled Souls
Jill’s true gift is in working with dogs that are suffering emotionally. She works with dogs that are exhibiting anxiety, insecurity, fear, aggression, and OCD behaviors, as well as dogs that are antisocial with people and/or other dogs and other animals. Dog training can greatly improve these issues, and often restore emotional balance.
Grooming / Vet
As a certified Groomer and a Vet Technician, Jill rehabs dogs having problems coping and behaving for those services. Jill provides this training both at her home in a grooming capacity and while at your veterinarian’s office.
Housebreaking
Jill offers housebreaking training for young dogs first learning this skill, as well as mature dogs at any age that have not thoroughly been housebroken. She has analyzed the physiology of dog excrement elimination, and formulated a scientific approach, that leads to her tremendous success.
For complex housebreaking issues, Jill prefers to address the housebreaking training, in her home, utilizing Dog Boarding Training. For less complex housebreaking training, Jill can happily assist, while your dog remains at your home.
